St. George Hospital, Vazhakulam, stands as a beacon of compassionate healthcare with a legacy spanning over 70 years. Established in 1940 by the dedicated priests of St. George’s Church, the hospital began as a modest initiative to serve the local community. A transformative phase in its journey began in 1955 under the visionary leadership of Bishop Rev. Mathew Pothanamuzhy, who played a pivotal role in the hospital’s expansion and modernization.

The official inauguration of the restructured hospital was held on August 28, 1955, with the then Health Minister, A.R. Rahim, presiding over the ceremony — a milestone that marked the beginning of a new era in healthcare delivery for the region.

Over the decades, St. George Hospital has earned a reputation as one of the leading healthcare institutions in Vazhakulam, particularly renowned for its expertise in anti-snake venom treatment and palliative care services. The hospital plays a vital role in offering dedicated palliative care, a service that was initiated by Dr. Lal and is now carried forward by Dr. Mathews Numpeli, Dr. Sony James, and the compassionate MJS sisters.
